METHOD FOR CONDUCTING SPACE EXPERIMENT TO ASSESS RADIATION-PROTECTIVE PROPERTIES OF MATERIALS IN CONDITIONS OF LONG-TERM ORBITAL FLIGHT Russian patent published in 2021 - IPC B64G1/66 G01N33/00

Abstract RU 2758528 C1

FIELD: space research.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of radiation experimental research in space conditions. The method involves the manufacture of a cylindrical container from the material under study with a wall thickness equal to the path of protons with energy of 50 MeV in this material. Storage dosimeters with ionizing radiation detectors are placed inside and outside the container. The container with dosimeters is placed inside the spacecraft and exposed for a specified time in the conditions of an orbital flight, and then returned to Earth in a sealed transport container. The transport and experimental containers are opened and dosimeters are extracted to take off the accumulated data. Laboratory tests of the studied material are carried out to determine changes in its properties. According to the information received, the radiation-protective properties of the material are judged.

EFFECT: excluding the influence of background ionizing radiation when determining the degree of attenuation of cosmic ionizing radiation by a material of a certain thickness.
