FIELD: signalling.

SUBSTANCE: inventions relate to systems of road signalling units, in particular, to systems for ensuring the safety of a pedestrian crossing and to a method for implementation of the system. The system for ensuring safety of a pedestrian crossing includes at least one lighting source, at least one power source, a control unit functionally connected with a server with software, configured send a signal for a change in the operating mode of the lighting source, at least one video camera configured to transmit images to the control unit. The server is configured to based on the image received from the control unit: detect "pedestrian" and "vehicle" objects in the control area, determine the trajectory of movement of "pedestrian" and "vehicle" objects in the control area, locate "pedestrian" and "vehicle" objects in the control area, determine the speed of "pedestrian" and "vehicle" objects in the control area, set the pedestrian crossing area in order to determine violations of the rules for passing the pedestrian crossing therein, based on the data on the trajectory of movement of "pedestrian" and "vehicle" objects.

EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of alerting drivers about a pedestrian present at or approaching a pedestrian crossing, increase in the accuracy of identifying violations of traffic regulations regarding the behaviour of vehicle drivers at a pedestrian crossing.
