SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of catalysis. Described is a method for reducing a spent catalyst in the form of an ionic liquid, including bringing the spent catalyst in the form of an ionic liquid into contact with hydrogen in a reduction reactor, wherein the reduction reactor operates under conditions sufficient to reduce the mixed polymer in the spent catalyst in the form of an ionic liquid, to obtain a reduced catalyst in in the form of an ionic liquid, and the amount of hydrogen is less than or equal to 97.96 m3/m3 of the spent catalyst in the form of an ionic liquid.

EFFECT: recovery of the catalyst.
