FIELD: indole-3-carbinol production.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to an improved method for producing indole-3-carbinol. The method includes the reduction of indole-3-carboxaldehyde with sodium borohydride in an alcoholic medium, followed by the isolation of the target compound by treating the reaction mixture with water, filtration and drying under vacuum conditions, while glycols are preliminarily added to the alcoholic medium, and alcohols containing from 2 to 3 carbon atoms.

EFFECT: method allows to significantly speed up the process of reduction of indole-3 carbaldehyde with sodium borohydride, to simplify the process by reducing the number of stages for obtaining the target compound due to the absence of the need to concentrate the reaction mass and conduct additional purification of the target compound, to abandon the use of a large number of organic solvents, including such highly toxic , as benzene or toluene, used at the stage of purification of indole-3 carbinol, as well as to obtain the target product of high quality with the content of the main compound 98.9 - 99.5% without additional purification.
