SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of biotechnology. The invention is a method for predicting the growth potential of rams, including the assessment of lambs in terms of productivity using a productivity marker and making a prediction based on the assessment, according to the invention, the level of alkaline phosphatase activity in blood serum in a group of one-month-old rams is determined and individuals with a high activity of alkaline phosphatase, as having a high potential for gaining live weight.
EFFECT: method provides a quick assessment of the individual growth potential of rams up to six months, which allows at an early age to select animals genetically predisposed to a high growth rate of live weight.
