FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for electrochemical production of nanoscale graphite flakes, consisting in electrodes made of natural or artificial graphite containing or not containing a binder being placed in an electrolyte and an electric current being applied thereto, leading to intercalation of ions and subsequent exfoliation of graphite. The method is characterised by using a mixture alkaline electrolyte containing at least two types of cations with different ionic radii.

EFFECT: reduction in the number of defects of the material, increase in the lateral dimensions of the nanoparticles, increase in the yield of the target product, reduction in the consumption of electricity, increase in the productivity of the electrolyser.
