SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrical traction systems for vehicles. The device for regenerative braking of traction electric motors of railway transport includes a traction motor, a DC / AC converter, a capacitor energy storage, a secondary chemical current source, the first and second DC / DC converters and an nc-contact. The traction motor is connected to the positive and negative power rails via a bi-directional DC / AC converter with a control signal input. A capacitor energy storage is connected to the power buses through the first DC / DC converter with an input of control signals. Secondary chemical current source through a second DC / DC converter with control signal input and through an nc-contact is also connected to the positive and negative power rails

EFFECT: increase in the amount of energy accumulated in the capacitor energy storage during braking and the possibility of providing a long autonomous run without power from the contact network.
