FIELD: technological processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of reducing a metal oxide to a metal in a continuous process. Method involves continuous introduction of mixed bodies obtained by molding a mixture, including low-grade carbonaceous material having a moisture content of about 30 % to about 70 %, and a metal oxide-containing material, which are in close contact and at a ratio in the dry mixture from about 1:2 to about 1:10 by weight, into the upper region of the upright retort. Said bodies are moved from said upper region into heated lower region of said retort, where said mixed bodies are subjected to temperature increase up to about 950 °C and where said composite bodies are exposed to a reducing gas generated in situ, for a period of time from about 15 minutes to about 3 hours, thereby obtaining a reduced metal-containing product. Product containing the reduced metal is continuously removed from the lower region of the retort.
EFFECT: invention ensures reduction of consumed energy consumption, production of high-purity metal product.
