SUBSTANCE: inventions relates to devices for generating aerosol. The aerosol generating device comprises: a main part, a top cover, the top cover having a removable insert cavity for an article for generating an aerosol containing an aerosol-forming substrate, and a heater in the cavity. In this case, the top cover is movable relative to the main part between the first position and the second position, while the cavity is accessible for inserting the product for generating aerosol when the top cover is in the first position, while the cavity is inaccessible for inserting the product for generating aerosol when the top cover is located in the second position. In this case, one or more of the top cover and the main part comprises a locking mechanism configured to lock the top cover in one or more of the first position and the second position. The blocking mechanism contains electrical leads to enable the transmission of electrical energy from the electrical power source in the main body to the top cover. The movement of the top cover between the first position and the second position is provided by one or more of: pivoting the top cover around or transversely to the longitudinal axis of the aerosol generating device and sliding the top cover transversely to the longitudinal axis of the aerosol generating device.

EFFECT: protection against contamination of the cavity of the product for generating aerosol and the heater during non-use of the device.
