SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the production of a key connection on shafts. The key is installed in the key slot with a gap. Heating and plastic deformation of the key slot of the shaft is carried out by an electrode tool for electromechanical processing, which is installed vertically at a distance of 0.3… 1.5 mm from the edge of the key slot of the shaft to ensure precipitation and distribution of shaft metal towards the slot. The distribution of the shaft metal is limited to the key. Treatment is carried out intermittently with points (sections) of a rounded shape with an area of 5…80 mm2. The first point is processed at the beginning of the key slot, the second point is processed at the end of the key slot, after which the following points are processed sequentially in the direction from the second to the first with a certain step, providing the necessary distances between points along the slot of 0…5 mm.

EFFECT: simplification of the method and increase in the efficiency of obtaining a tight key connection on the shafts with simultaneous hardening of the side surface of the keyway.
