SUBSTANCE: invention relates to computer engineering. Disclosed method of determining the name of a settlement in which a terminal is installed, which is carried out by at least one computing device, comprises steps of: obtaining data on all transactions of the client and transactions performed by said client through the terminal, for which the name of the settlement in which it is installed is to be determined; extracting from the transaction data the names of all settlements in which the client made transactions, and the names of all settlements in which transactions were performed by said client through this terminal; determining the total number of transactions in each settlement, performed using this terminal, and coefficients of coincidence of characters in the names, on the basis of which the name of the settlement in which the terminal is installed is determined.
EFFECT: expansion of functional capabilities of computing device due to provision of possibility to determine settlement in which terminal is installed, based on data on transactions.
