FIELD: chemical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical technology and can be used in manufacture of optical, luminescent, and laser ceramics. Hydrated yttrium oxide Y2O3·nH2O, wherein n>3, is treated with an ammonium carbonate solution containing 150 to 200 g/l (NH4)2CO3, at L:S=10 to 15 and a temperature of 70 to 120°C for 4 to 8 h. The resulting precipitate of double yttrium and ammonium carbonate NH4Y(CO3)2·H2O is separated from the reaction solution, washed with water in portions in the counterflow mode, dried at 100 to 120°C to a constant mass, and calcined at 700 to 800°C for 1 to 2 h, producing a finely dispersed powder of yttrium oxide. The reaction solution, after separation of the precipitate of double yttrium and ammonium carbonate, is diluted with a first portion of washing water, hardened with ammonium carbonate taken in an amount ensuring the content thereof of 150 to 200 g/l, and used to treat the hydrated yttrium oxide.
EFFECT: invention provides a possibility of producing a finely dispersed powder of yttrium oxide in a narrow size range of 15 to 20 nm, increasing the environmental sustainability of the method due to the reduction in the amount of liquid waste, as well as the manufacturability thereof due to the reduction in the number and consumption of reagents and the volume of material flows.
