FIELD: aviation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to ignition of combustible mixtures using an electric spark, in particular, to capacitive ignition systems of aircraft gas turbine engines. Proposed method of testing and checking the operability of spark plugs of gas turbine engines consists in the fact that the spark plug is installed in a sealed air chamber, to which air is supplied with different values of pressure corresponding to values of working pressure in the engine when the ignition system is switched on at various types of its start-up, high-voltage pulses from the ignition unit are supplied to the plug. Spark plug operability is confirmed by the presence of uninterrupted sparking in its spark gap, the spark plug gap is additionally installed in the air volume, which is heat insulated from the rest of the medium inside the sealed air chamber, air in heat-insulated air volume is heated to temperature values corresponding to preset pressure values as per flight cycle of engine operation when ignition system is switched on at various types of start-up.

EFFECT: increased reliability of independent tests of ignition systems during reproduction of parameters of influencing factors acting on elements of ignition system, reduction of costs for testing of spark plugs during life tests of gas turbine engines.
