FIELD: chemical or physical processes.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine, which is widely used in making polymers, metal corrosion inhibitors, in chemical synthesis, etc. Method involves reaction of acetone and ammonia in the presence of granular zeolite Y with a hierarchical (micro-meso-macroporous) structure in H-form at 200–350 °C and volumetric feed rate of 2–7 h−1, molar ratio of acetone: ammonia is 1:1–5. Application of this method enables to obtain 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine with high output.
EFFECT: proposed is a novel method of producing 2,4,6-trimethylpyridine with higher output, using a granular zeolite catalyst with a hierarchical porous structure H-Ymmm, at a lower reaction temperature and high volumetric feed rate.
