FIELD: foundry production.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to foundry production and can be used to improve the durability of a metal mold for casting copper alloys. The method for applying a protective coating on the forming surface of a metal mold for casting copper alloys is carried out as follows. The preheating and cleaning of the forming surface of the metal mold is carried out by the method for cathode-ion bombardment. A layer of titanium nitride with a thickness of 1.5 mcm and a hardness of 52-55 HRC is applied to the pre-cleaned shaping surface of the metal mold by cathode-ion bombardment for adhesive bonding of the coating with the shaping surface of the metal mold. Then, an intermediate layer 1 mcm thick with a hardness of 61-63 HRC of titanium carbonitride and molybdenum is applied over the lower layer. After that, a top layer of molybdenum nitride is applied with a thickness of 2 microns and a hardness of 53-57 HRC. The application of all these layers is carried out by the method for cathode-ion bombardment in a vacuum chamber.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance and heat resistance of the forming surface of the mold, as well as the quality of the resulting castings by reducing the coefficient of friction between the forming surface and the flow of molten metal.
