FIELD: foundry production.
SUBSTANCE: method for applying a protective coating to a metal mould for casting magnesium alloys includes applying a coating to a moulding surface of a metal mould preliminarily cleaned by cathode-ion bombardment. A layer (2) with a thickness of 2.0 mcm with a hardness of 51-53 HRC is applied to the cleaned surface from titanium and molybdenum metal nitride for adhesive bonding of the coating with the surface of the metal mould. An intermediate layer (3) with a thickness of 2.0 mcm with a hardness of 59-61 HRC from titanium nitride is applied over the lower layer to ensure high hardness of the entire coating, then an upper layer (4) with a thickness of 2.0 mcm with a hardness of 50-52 HRC is applied from molybdenum nitride. All layers are applied by cathode ion bombardment in a vacuum chamber. The surface to be coated is placed on a rotating base, next to which cathodes are installed opposite each other in the same horizontal plane, the evaporation of which is carried out using an electric arc in the evaporator with the simultaneous action of an ion emitter in the reaction gas medium.
EFFECT: increased wear resistance of a metal mould for casting magnesium alloys.
