SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing 3-arylindan-1-ones of general formula 3, comprising using a method of super-electrophilic activation in trifluoromethanesulphonic acid in the reaction of hydroarylation of 3-arylacrylonitriles (cinnamic nitriles) of general formula 1 by mixing a super acid and an aromatic reagent, portionwise addition of starting 3-arylacrylonitrile (or cinnamic nitrile) (1) so that it is always in excess of the aromatic compound and super acid, holding the reaction mixture in the required temperature range of 20 °C for 1–3 hours and decomposing with water, followed by extraction and purification of the products.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of synthesis and final output of end product of hydroarylation reaction, reduced prime cost of solution synthesis and elimination of organometallic catalysts, as well as reactions requiring use of highly toxic reagents.
