SUBSTANCE: device for preparation and dispensing of beverage, such as tea, coffee, hot chocolate, cold chocolate, milk, soup or baby food, comprising a capsule recognition module for recognizing a capsule inserted into said device in a capsule recognition position, wherein the capsule recognition module comprises a camera for capturing an image of at least a portion of said capsule in said capsule recognition position, at least one light source, for example, at least one light-emitting diode to illuminate the capsule in said capsule recognition position, wherein the capsule recognition module comprises a light diffuser for scattering light from at least one light source towards the capsule recognition position.

EFFECT: disclosed device enables to avoid erroneous illumination of the capsule and thus, possibly, erroneous recognition of the capsule.
