SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for reductive cleavage of a C–S bond in aromatic compounds in process streams. Disclosed is a method for reducing sulfur in fuel or fuel feedstock, which contains at least one aromatic substrate containing a hydrogen sulphide bond, where method includes contacting fuel or fuel material with a chemical system containing at least one organosilane having at least one silicon-hydrogen bond, at least one strong base and optionally at least one molecular hydrogen donor compound, molecular hydrogen or both, at temperature from 75 to 450 °C to reduce at least part of carbon-sulfur bonds in organic substrate.
EFFECT: elimination of sulfur from raw material streams for improvement of ecology and prevention of poisoning of catalysts from precious metals in catalytic converters.
