FIELD: material processing.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to material processing by cutting; it can be used for operations of longitudinal cutting using spline milling cutters. A spline milling cutter contains a disc case with a set of parts distributed along the circumference for receiving a cutting insert and a set of cutting inserts held in them. Each part for receiving the cutting insert has the first and the second clamping jaws separated by a groove for receiving the cutting insert, wherein the first clamping jaw is made with the possibility of elastic shifting, and it has an elastic axis of rotation. A number of cutting inserts elastically clamped in the spline milling cutter is equal to an inner cutting diameter, which is defined by a set of elastic axes of rotation, multiplied by the coefficient of distribution, which is from 0.15 to 0.30.
EFFECT: possibility of processing at high feeds is provided, service life of the milling cutter is increased.
