FIELD: cutting tools.
SUBSTANCE: inventions group relates to cutting tools, in the sockets of which indexable cutting inserts are fixed. The tool comprises a body with a first slot for a cutting insert, which has a first seating surface with a plurality of first interaction elements and a first support wall transverse with respect to it. The cutting insert has top and bottom surfaces and a boundary surface extending between them. The lower surface has a plurality of lower engagement elements, and the boundary surface has a plurality of alternating first and second peripheral surfaces intersecting the upper surface to form first and second upper cutting edges. At each indexing position, the first support wall prevents linear movement of the cutting insert in the first direction. The first interaction elements eccentrically contact the lower interaction elements to prevent linear movement of the cutting insert in a second direction perpendicular to the first.
EFFECT: making grooves having a reduced groove width relative to the cutting width of the insert.
