FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing vinylidene dimers of terminal alkenes of general formula (1): where: R = n-C4H9 (1a), n-C5H11 (1b), n-C6H13 (1c), n-C7H15 (1d), n-C8H17 (1e), by a dimerisation reaction of terminal linear alkenes C6-C10 under the action of catalyst systems based on organoaluminium compounds (OAC), a complex Cp2ZrCl2 and methylaluminoxane MAO, characterized in that the OAC used is HAlBui2 or AlBui3, methylaluminoxane used is MMAO-12, the reaction is carried out in molar ratio [Zr] : [OAC] : [MAO] : [alkene-1] = 1:3:(30–40):(100–2500), at temperature of 40–55°C and atmospheric pressure for 30 minutes in toluene or benzene.
EFFECT: method uses readily available reagents, reaction takes place in a short time and at lower temperatures, provides output of dimers of 83–98%.
