FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of industrial production of vinylidene dimers of α-olefins, starting compounds for the production of motor oil bases and lubricants and other low-tonnage chemistry products, and can be used in the petrochemical industry and in organic synthesis. Disclosed is a method of producing a vinylidene dimer of α-olefin of general formula RCH2CH2C(=CH2)R by dimerisation α-olefin RCH=CH2, where R=C6H13-C10C21, in the presence of a catalyst obtained from a pre-catalyst – zirconocene dichloride of general formula O(SiMe2L)2ZrCl2, activated successively with trialkylaluminium and perfluoroaryl borate [PhNMe2H][B(C6F5)4], in which the zirconocene dichloride used is a complex characterized by the presence of two indeno[2,1-b]indole fragments linked by a -SiMe2OSiMe2-bridge and the structural formula:
with molar ratio of components in activation of precatalyst : trialkylaluminium : perfluoroaryl borate equal to 1:30:1.1, and dimerisation is carried out at temperature of 100-120 °C and at molar ratio [α-olefin]/[Zr]=30,000:1. As α-olefin, octene-1, decene-1, dodecene-1 are used.
EFFECT: increased conversion α-olefins (exceeding 93%), increased output of dimers of α-olefins (exceeding 86%) and reduced output of by-products.
