SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of maintenance and monitoring of the railway track. In a method for locating points or lines (A, B, C, D, A', B', C', D', 162, 163, 164) of interest of a railway track (22) by means of a railway track location system (12) moving along the railroad track (22), the line camera (26) directed at the railroad track (22) repeatedly collects instantaneous linear optical data along the instantaneous measurement line (50), and the orientation device (52) of the railway track positioning system (12) repeatedly collects the orientation data of the railway track positioning system (12) relative to the reference line (22A) of the railway track (22). Then, by processing at least instantaneous linear optical data, a probably distorted raster image of the area of the surface of the railway track (22) is built, and on this probably distorted raster image points or lines of interest (A, B, C, D, A', B', C', D', 162, 163, 164) are identified until the corrected coordinates of the indicated points or lines (A, B, C, D, A', B', C', D', 162, 163, 164) of interest are determined, depending on the likely skewed coordinates of the specified points or lines (A, B, C, D, A', B', C', D', 162, 163, 164) of interest in the frame of reference of the likely skewed bitmap and orientation data.
EFFECT: increased accuracy and lead time of determining the locations of points or lines of interest on the railway track.
