FIELD: furnaces.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a shaft furnace for firing a carbon-containing material. Furnace comprises, in the direction of the material flow, a heating area, at least one firing area, a cooling area and an outlet for releasing the material from the shaft furnace, multiple fuel tuyeres directed into the firing area, wherein at least one fuel tuyere has a first depth of insertion into the firing area, and at least one other fuel tuyere has a second depth of insertion into the firing area, greater than the first depth of insertion; at least one primary air duct for supplying air for burning, connected with at least one fuel tuyere, and an oxygen line for supplying oxygen to the firing area, placed so as to ensure oxygen supply to at least one fuel tuyere with the second depth of insertion, wherein the primary air duct comprises a first primary air duct for supplying air for burning, connected with the fuel tuyere with the first depth of insertion, and a second primary air duct for supplying air for burning, connected with the fuel tuyere with the second depth of insertion, wherein the oxygen duct is connected only with the second primary air duct so as to ensure the passage of oxygen from the oxygen line to the second primary air duct. The second primary air duct may pass at least partially through the air heating apparatus in the primary air duct. Disclosed is a method for firing a carbon-containing material in the above shaft furnace.

EFFECT: possibility of facilitating the achievement of uniform temperature distribution in the section of the shaft.
