FIELD: audio objects clustering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means for clustering audio objects. A plurality of audio objects is classified into a number of categories based on information intended to be stored in the metadata associated with the plurality of audio objects. Assign a given number of clusters to categories. The audio object is placed in each of the categories in at least one of the clusters in accordance with the mentioned purpose. Assigning a predetermined number of clusters to categories includes determining, for each category, an appropriate number of clusters to be assigned to that category such that the total number of clusters adds up to the predetermined number of clusters. Here, the information includes one or more of size information, zone mask information, anchor information, content type, or playback mode of the audio object. Classifying the audio object with no information to be stored into one category; and classifying the audio object with the various information to be stored into another category.

EFFECT: improving the efficiency of clustering audio objects.
