The aorta and pulmonary trunk above their valves are cut off from the heart. Incisions are made at the opening of the heart at the junction of the walls of the left atrium with anatomical structures located outside the left atrium. The left half of the coronary sulcus and the transverse sinus of the pericardium are dissected until the junction of the posterior, lateral and anterior walls of the left atrium with the fibrous skeleton of the heart is visualized. The interatrial septum is cut off from the walls of the right atrium at the place of their connection, then the posterior, lateral, anterior walls of the left atrium are sequentially cut off from the fibrous skeleton of the heart. The medial wall of the left atrium is cut off from the fibrous skeleton of the heart.

EFFECT: method makes it possible to produce a complete isolated anatomical preparation of the left atrium and obtain reliable information about the size and shape of the left atrium of the human and animal hearts in normal conditions and in pathological processes.
