FIELD: ferrous metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of ferrous metallurgy, in particular to out-of-furnace processing of liquid steel in a ladle. The metal is heated by an alternating current arc, the metal is treated with an inert gas supplied to the bottom of the ladle, and the metal is blown through the axial hole in the graphite electrode. The inner diameter of the electrode is determined by the formula, using in the calculations the outer diameter of the electrode, the thermal conductivity of the electrode material, the temperature of the outer surface of the electrode, the gas temperature at the outlet of the electrode, the gas temperature in the supply pipeline, the specific heat of the gas, the gas velocity and the gas density.
EFFECT: invention makes it possible to reduce the consumption of electrodes per ton of steel by 17% due to efficient cooling of the electrodes from the inside, provided by determining the optimal diameter of the inner hole of the electrode.
