SUBSTANCE: group of inventions relates to a piston compressor and a method for compressing gas by means of this compressor. The piston compressor contains at least one piston compressor element (3), which is provided with a housing (8) with a compression chamber (13) in which a piston (10) is located with the possibility of reciprocating axially between the upper dead center and the lower dead center by means of a drive shaft (5) driven in movement by a rotary engine (6), and in which a kinematic transmission (20) is provided between this drive shaft (5) and the piston (10) for the main drive of the piston (10). The piston (10) is equipped with an additional drive (25) in the form of an electromagnetic linear drive.

EFFECT: group of inventions is aimed at increasing the power of the compressor.
