SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a cleaning robot and a cleaning method, the cleaning robotincludes: a housing; a movement mechanism that supports the housing and drives the cleaning robot; a power unit that provides motive power to ensure movement and work; a floor washing unit designed to be installed on the housing and perform a given cleaning operation, the floor washing unit can be equipped with cleaning materials; a control unit electrically connected and controlling the power unit for automatic movement and automatic operation of a cleaning robot; the control unit designed to check the category of the zone, after the cleaning operations are completed by the floor cleaning unit in the current zone, the control unit checks the category of the next zone to determine whether the category of this zone corresponds to the current zone, when the category of the zone is recognized as different, under the command from the control unit, the cleaning robot transmits information to the user about the need to replace cleaning materials, or replaces cleaning materials.

EFFECT: stains from different categories of zones do not pollute each other, which increases the degree of cleanliness of operation of the cleaning robot and the user experience is improved.
