SUBSTANCE: method of avoiding obstacles by a robot cleaner includes the following: when a robot cleaner, during cleaning along an edge of an area with a first type of surface, collides with an obstacle and turns, in response to a sensor signal on changing the type of surface, which detects an area with a second type of surface, performing a search on an already created room map to determine whether there is an area with a second surface type on it; if the area with the second type of surface is available on the room map, determining whether there is a path for bypassing this area with a second type of surface, based on the room map and the boundary of this area on the room map; if such path is available, robot cleaner moves along this path, to bypass this area with a second type of surface; if there is no such path, the robot cleaner returns along the already cleaned route to try to bypass the area with the second type of surface.
EFFECT: allows to solve the problem of robot cleaner jamming.
