SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of rolling production and can be used in forming control actions for actuating elements of the rolling stand of a mill for hot-rolling a metal strip to impact the shape and flatness of the strip. The method includes setting the required values of the shape and flatness of the central area of the strip and the process limit values of the flatness of said area after individual passes, entering said set values into the process model to model the hot rolling process, and consecutively calculating the control actions for the corresponding actuating elements. Additionally, for the required flatness after a set pass and for the required flatness after the subsequent passes, narrowed intervals of values thereof are set, falling within the limit values, then control actions for the actuating elements and the values of shape and flatness of the central area of the strip are consecutively calculated for individual passes using the process model, additionally accounting for the corresponding narrowed set intervals.

EFFECT: use of the invention allows for an improvement in the quality of strip rolling.
