SUBSTANCE: method for the production of metal ingots (L) includes loading (a) into at least one mold (11) of at least one portion (CM) of solid metal, melting of the metal portion by its heating to a temperature (Trs) more than or equal to a temperature (Tf) of melting of this metal, cooling of mold (11) with the provision of crystallization of the metal portion to obtain a metal ingot, and the extraction of the ingot. At the loading stage, the portion of solid metal is placed in the mold remaining heated after stages of crystallization and extraction of the ingot, while, in the established operation mode, extraction and loading are performed, when mold (11) has, respectively, a temperature (Te) of extraction and a temperature (Trp) of loading, each of which is less than or equal to a temperature (Trf) of cooling and is more than an ambient temperature.
EFFECT: reduction in the total energy consumption for the production of a quality ingot.
