FIELD: water treatment.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to filtering materials for water purification and can be used to purify water from radionuclides. A filter material based on goethite sand has been developed, consisting of the following components, wt. %: iron (III) oxide 3.0, a mixture of aluminum, magnesium and calcium oxides 8.0, manganese dioxide 1.0, neodymium (III) hydroxide 4.0, silicon dioxide (sand) being the rest. A method for obtaining the material is also described, which consists in treating goethite sand first with a 10% aqueous solution of nitric acid for 30 minutes at room temperature, then with a mixture of a 1% aqueous solution of potassium permanganate and a 4% aqueous solution of neodymium (III) sulfate while stirring for 1 hour with further treatment of with a 20% aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide to pH = 12, for 1 hour with stirring, then heated to 80°C for 1 hour, followed by drying at 100°C for 3 hours, and then at 200°C for 1 hour with further sieving through a sieve with the selection of 0.7-1.6 mm fractions.
EFFECT: increase in the filtering (sorption) ability of the material.
