SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, namely to dentistry, and can be used to determine the amount of periodontal atrophy. An X-ray examination is carried out using the method for cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) with the measurement of the total length of the root from the enamel-cement border to the apex of the root and the length of its open part. In this case, a section is chosen in which the length of the tooth root or for multi-rooted teeth, the length of the medial root is maximum. The length of the root and the length of its open part are measured in the coronal and sagittal projections along the medial and distal surfaces. The full length of the root is denoted hпn, the length of its open part is denoted hon. The value of the volume of periodontal atrophy (and) of the tooth is calculated according to the formula

EFFECT: method provides determining the volume of periodontal atrophy without the need for painful and inaccurate measurement of the pocket depth with a probe, reducing the time for performing the study, obtaining an accurate quantitative result due to the use of the CBCT method.
