FIELD: communication.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of telecommunications. The technical result is achieved by measuring the following parameters after a set time interval tset: number of packets supplied to the communication system in the block of information input apparatuses, capacity of the buffers in the block of storage apparatuses and bandwidths of the communication channels in the block of information transmission apparatuses, number of packets in the block of storage apparatuses, and productivity of the communication system in the block of information output apparatuses of the communication system. Based on the above measurements, the interval of effective operation of the communication system, the current values of the tangent of the angle of bandwidth efficiency of the communication system tgαi and the threshold value thereof tgαthr are calculated. tgαi is compared with tgαthr, and if the value of tgαi is less than or equal to tgαthr, measurements and calculations are stopped, and a decision is made that the communication system will operate efficiently while ensuring the acceptable level of information losses with the intensities of input traffic in the interval [γin thr1, γin tgα].

EFFECT: determined interval of input traffic whereat the communication system operates with the required information exchange efficiency, with an acceptable level of information losses characterised by the values of the tangent of the bandwidth efficiency of the communication system.
