Proposed is a method for controlling a vehicle executed by a processor configured to change the traffic lane of the employed vehicle. Method herein includes the stages of obtaining information on the environment of the employed vehicle by means of a sensor; determining the presence of a factor that may be distracting for the driver of another vehicle when the employed vehicle drives in front of said other vehicle moving along the second traffic lane. The method also includes the stage of setting the lane change time required for the employed vehicle to change the lane, wherein the lane change time is longer when the presence of said factor is determined than when the absence of said factor is determined; and controlling the position of movement of the employed vehicle along the first lane for the lane change time. The apparatus for controlling a vehicle comprises an apparatus receiving information on the environment of the employed vehicle, and a controller.
