FIELD: imaging technology.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of image encoding/decoding, and more specifically to methods for communicating quantization parameters (QP) of brightness and/or chroma of a video signal. The proposed method for communicating quantization parameters for SDR and HD content in video encoding is described using two approaches. The first approach is to send a user-defined Qpc table directly in a high-level syntax. It leads to more flexible and efficient QP management for the development of future codecs and encoding of video content. The second approach is to communicate the QP of brightness and chroma independently. This approach eliminates the need for Qpc tables and removes the dependence of the chroma quantization parameter on QP brightness.
EFFECT: increase in the efficiency of encoding/decoding by communicating the chroma quantization parameters in a content-dependent way.
