SUBSTANCE: invention relates to means of video decoding. A first network abstraction layer (NAL) block of the video coding layer (VCL) of the first slice of the encoded image and a second NAL block of the VCL of the second slice of the encoded image are received. The first NAL block of the VCL belongs to the first type of NAL blocks of the VCL, and the second NAL block of the VCL belongs to the second type of NAL blocks of the VCL, different from the first type of NAL blocks of the VCL. The encoded image is decoded, said decoding including determining the type of the encoded image based on the first type of the NAL block of the VCL and the second type of the NAL block of the VCL, or based on the indicator indicating that the encoded image contains NAL blocks of the VCL of mixed types. Said determining herein includes determining that the encoded image is a subsequent image, based on the first type of the NAL block of the VCL, indicating that the first NAL block of the VCL contains an encoded gradual decoding refresh (GDR) image slice, and the second type of the NAL block of the VCL, indicating that the second NAL block of the VCL contains an encoded instant decoding refresh (IDR) image slice or encoded clear random access (CRA) image slice.
EFFECT: increased efficiency of video decoding.
