The device includes a first tubular layer of an aerosol-forming substrate forming a cylindrical hollow central core, a second tubular layer of an aerosol-forming substrate located around the first tubular layer of an aerosol-forming substrate. The first tubular layer is a gel layer. The aerosol generating method includes heating the first tubular layer of the aerosol-forming substrate to a first temperature and simultaneously heating the second tubular layer to a second temperature, the first temperature being different from the second temperature.

EFFECT: aerosol generation is optimized, homogeneous heating is provided with improved uniform air flow, and the palatability of the aerosol is improved.
