FIELD: navigation.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to navigation in ice conditions. A method for the destruction of the ice cover is proposed, which consists in excitation by an underwater multihull vessel in the ice cover of resonant bending-gravity waves. Two underwater hulls of a multihull vessel are interconnected with the possibility of changing the distance between them. During the movement of the vessel, if it becomes necessary to increase its ice-breaking capacity, the distance between the hulls is reduced to the minimum safe value.
EFFECT: invention increases the height of the excited flexural-gravity waves, i.e. their ice-breaking ability.
