FIELD: continuous casting.

SUBSTANCE: installation for continuous casting of an ingot contains casting mold (11) with crystallizer (12) defining cavity (13) of an octagonal section, a size of which is equivalent to a size of a square with a side of 130-160 mm, and retaining device (21) located for a length LG from an output end of mold (11). Retaining device (21) contains retaining blocks (22) located one after the other, each of which is equipped with rollers (23) for retention of part of the ingot, laying in one plane along a perimeter of the ingot. A length LC, in each case, is established as zero, if L≤LM+LG, as L-(LM+LG), if L>LM+LG, or as LC=[(π⋅Rm/2)-(LM+LG)], where LM is a length of the crystallizer, 500-1500 mm, LG is a guide length occupied with guiding rollers, 150-800 mm, Rm is a radius of a curvature of a casting line, 5-25 m. At the same time, a value of L is determined depending on a density of cast material, free fall acceleration, Young modulus, a length of a side of a cross-section of the ingot, a casting speed, a radius of a curvature of a casting line, and maximum permissible value of a deforming bulge of a side of the cross-section of the ingot.

EFFECT: increase in a casting speed with increase in the quality of an ingot.
