FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for synthesis of α-amino acid or α-amino acid derivative. The method provides for reaction of α-, β-dihydroxycarboxylate source compound in a reaction mixture under hydrogen pressure and in the presence of an aminating agent and a cleavage catalyst to form α-amino acid or α-amino acid derivative, wherein α-amino acid or α-amino acid derivative contain a smaller number of carbon atoms compared to the source compound.
EFFECT: proposed method for synthesis of α-amino acid or α-amino acid derivative satisfies the need for alternative strategies of chemical synthesis of amino acids, includes easily accessible or easily obtained substrates, and allows for obtainment of different amino acid products with commercially attractive yields.
