FIELD: mechanical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to mechanical engineering and can be used in vehicles of M and N categories. The electric power steering includes an electric motor and a steering mechanism equipped with an input shaft connected to a torsion bar and a steering arm. Additionally, it contains an electric motor control unit and a mechanical transmission unit formed by a two-stage cylindrical gearbox. The steering mechanism and the electric motor are made in the form of separate units for the possibility of their longitudinal or transverse arrangement relative to the mechanical transmission unit. A magnetic torque sensor is installed on the input shaft of the steering mechanism. The mechanical transmission unit includes an electromagnetic coupling containing the first half coupling mounted on the shaft of the electric motor and the second half coupling, which is the gear of the mechanical transmission unit. The electric motor control unit is connected to the electric motor, the electromagnetic coupling of the mechanical transmission unit, the magnetic torque sensor and the on-board power supply of the vehicle.
EFFECT: increase in the steering wheel torque and its transmission to the arm shaft, as well as an increase in driving safety.
