FIELD: aqueous binder compositions.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to an aqueous binder composition for mineral fibers containing at least two hydrocolloids and at least one fatty acid ester of glycerol. One of the hydrocolloids is gelatin and the other is selected from the group consisting of pectin, starch, alginate, agar-agar, carrageenan, cellulose derivatives and the like. The ester of fatty acids and glycerol is a vegetable oil or animal oil and is contained in the binder composition in an amount of from 0.5 to 40 wt.% in terms of dry hydrocolloid. Curing of the aqueous composition on the fibers occurs at a temperature not exceeding 9°C.
EFFECT: providing mineral wool products with high strength without the use of corrosive and harmful materials, when using a lower temperature for curing the binder composition.
