FIELD: computer-aided design.
SUBSTANCE: the group of inventions can be used to control an unknown surface of a complex shape or its profile, for example, to control a surface with inclusions of sharp edges in the absence of a CAD model. A method for determining the geometry of a surface involves scanning the surface to obtain the coordinates of points using a spherical probe. When scanning a surface, the coordinates of the center of the probe sphere are continuously tracked in a given coordinate system, the coordinates of the points of the probe sphere centers are fixed at the moments of contact with a surface with a complex shape for two adjacent scanning paths, two adjacent points of the sphere centers corresponding to the first scanning path are selected, and one point of the sphere center closest to them corresponding to the second scanning path. Through the selected three points, a plane is built, which is then shifted parallel to itself towards the surface by the radius of the probe sphere, thereby obtaining the coordinates of the points of the desired surface, while the radius of the sphere is at least 7 times greater than the step between the points obtained.
EFFECT: improving the accuracy of determining the geometry of the surface.
