FIELD: electrical engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of electrical engineering, namely to a method and a device for detection of water in multiphase flows; it can be used in the production of hydrocarbons in oil and gas wells, where it is desirable to determine a flow rate of separate phases, for example oil, gas, and water. The device contains a channel, which has an inlet for reception of a multiphase flow, and an electromagnetic sensor connected to an area of the channel, saturated with liquid, for measurement of dielectric permeability of the multiphase flow, a control device with detection of water for determination of that water is detected in the multiphase flow based on dielectric permeability, while the control device contains a parameter calculator for determination of the maximum and minimum of a set of measurements of dielectric permeability of the multiphase flow and/or conductivity and their difference with subsequent comparison of the resulting parameters with a water detection threshold.

EFFECT: increase in the accuracy of measurements by interpretation of parameters of a mixture, obtained in a large data sample from one or more electromagnetic sensors.
