CORNEAL EROSION DIAGNOSING AND TREATMENT EFFICACY ASSESSMENT METHOD Russian patent published in 2023 - IPC A61B3/10 A61B3/14

Abstract RU 2789965 C1

FIELD: medicine.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to medicine, in particular to ophthalmology, and may be used to assess a corneal erosion treatment efficacy. For this purpose, the cornea is stained. The cornea images are stored using photographic equipment. Then the corneal erosion area is measured via determining the relative corneal erosion area percentage, which is defined as a ratio of the erosion area in pixels to the total corneal area in pixels. The resulting parameters shall be compared at different stages of patient follow-up by determining the relative area of corneal epithelialisation as a percentage, which is defined as a difference between the relative erosion area before and after treatment. When the relative corneal epithelialisation area is up to 4%, inclusive, the treatment efficacy is considered insufficient and the treatment process is corrected. When the relative corneal epithelialisation area exceeds 4%, the treatment efficacy is considered sufficient.

EFFECT: invention provides impartial assessment of the corneal epithelium defect area at different stages of treatment by providing high accuracy and universality of hardware and software application, which also allows correcting the treatment plan in a timely manner.
