FIELD: electrical engineering.
SUBSTANCE: heating system based on the skin effect for long-distance pipelines includes a heating electric cable in a ferromagnetic or other type of conductive heat tube. The semiconductor shell comes in contact with the inner surface of the heat tube, where the charge density of the reverse electric current conducted by the heat tube reaches the maximum value thereof. The material of the semiconductor shell is characterised by a value of specific electrical resistance low enough to eliminate or reduce the risk of electric arc-associated events, such as a corona discharge, due to the provided possibility of scattering the charge accumulated on the heat tube. The value of specific electrical resistance is also large enough to prevent the inflow of reverse current to the outer semiconductor layer or the passage thereof through said layer, thereby maximising the heat generating capacity of the system.
EFFECT: creation of a shielded wire suitable for use in a pipeline heating system.
