SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods for modification of humic acids, specifically to a method for their nitration; it can be used in the production of heavy metal sorbents, as well as in agriculture. The proposed method for nitration of humic acids is carried out by preparation of a reaction mixture of humic acids, a nitrating reagent, and a solvent and nitration at specified temperature and time conditions with subsequent isolation of a target product. The method differs in that, as the nitrating reagent, nitric acid in a binary solvent consisting of dioxan and water coming from an initial solution of concentrated nitric acid is used, with a flow rate of concentrated nitric acid of 1.2-2 ml/g of humic acid, a flow rate of dioxan of 6-12 ml/g of humic acid, and nitration duration of 5-60 min, in a boiling water bath. The invention also relates to the use of a mixture of nitric acid and dioxan in the specified method for nitration of humic acids, with a flow rate of concentrated nitric acid of 1.2-2 ml/g of humic acid, a flow rate of dioxan of 6-12 ml/g of humic acid, and nitration duration of 5-60 min, in a boiling water bath.

EFFECT: method allows for reduction in duration of nitration of humic acids and increase in its efficiency.
